More like, the Great Botnens With Kids Get-Together! Josh, Kari, Kiley, Bailey and Charley accompanied us to the Minnesota State Fair to take in all we could on the last day! Leave it to us to wait until the last minute… Usually we go two or three times per year, but that just didn’t work for us in 2013. We were busy with a bachelorette party and wedding the other weekend days so we made sure we hit it up… even if it was the last day! It actually worked in our favor to wait. The week before had been scorching hot. We lucked out with 68 degrees and overcast… perfect fair weather!
Leggy McLeggerton Zo, Daddy and Toothless (of course!) admiring the Mighty Midway…
Can I just say that I love being around Bailey, Kiley and Zoey when they’re together. They are so incredibly cute, and it’s much easier to coax them into trying new things when their favorite cousin also happens to be participating! That’s how we got both Bailey and Zoey to agree to go on the giant slide. Here’s Zo’s excited “before” picture…
And here’s her after… poor kid lol!
She was still triumphant! The ride wiped her out, but she was proud. “I did the big swide!”
But the best part… Zo and Bailey’s action shots…
I die laughing every time I see these pictures… SERIOUSLY. HILARIOUS. (Thank you SO much to my awesome SIL, Kari, for her ridiculously fantastic photography!)
No tears… Just pure terror and adrenaline! (Still can’t stop laughing!) Of course, Kiley was a pro!
After a ride like that, we all needed a juice/ beer break. We headed over to the beer garden to have a few snacks and drinks. Like I said, I love hanging out with these kids :)… They’re just too good together!
After that, we decided to just wander and see where the day took us. First place it took us, a candy shop :). Uncle Dosh
spoils his niece was kind enough to buy Zo her very own giant pixie stick! It was so fun watching the girls fill them with all the colors. I think they approved!
Then, off to the carousel where we rode twice!
The boys got their cheese curds…
And the Botnen women shucked around…
We stopped by the goat barn where the girls all enjoyed making friends with the goats… And super gross… Zo stretched to plant one right on this goat’s lips. Thanks for catching that on camera, Kar!
And then another treat from Uncle Josh and Auntie Kari… games at the midway! Zo had so much fun winning her “guys”!
It was getting late and the girls were all getting tired/ Charley was already sleeping.
The crowd was also getting larger by the second! Record attendance that day!
We parted ways with Josh and Kari. Probably going to have to make this an annual occasion!
After saying goodbye, Ben treated me to my favorite fair food… Australian potatoes…
That Zoey promptly dipped her head into…
And, no fair trip is complete without over-indulging in Sweet Martha’s chocolate chip cookies! A staple for every fair-goer!
How is it that summer is over??? The fair came and went so quickly and now it’s almost mid-September. Better get a move on to the Renaissance Festival before fall is long gone!
Thank you again to Kari for sharing the wonderful pictures! Half of these are hers and I’m so grateful for a heck of a photographer as a SIL!
